More Than a Thank You: Teaching Children the Power of Gratitude

When a child looks at their teacher and says thank you, and really means it, something important has happened. Not just a lesson in manners, but a moment of genuine connection. A recognition that the people around them matter.
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, the week of May 11, gives our Creative Center community a meaningful chance to make that happen together.
At Creative Center for Children, our teachers are the steady, caring presence our children count on every day. They know which child needs a little extra encouragement in the morning. They remember birthdays, celebrate milestones, and create a classroom environment where each child feels seen and valued. They show up, day after day, with warmth and intention.
Research in social-emotional development tells us that children who learn to express gratitude develop stronger relationships, greater empathy, and a more positive outlook overall. Appreciation Week is a beautiful, hands-on opportunity to practice that. When a child helps pick out a treat for their teacher, writes their name on a card, or simply says "thank you" with a little more intention than usual, they are building a skill that will serve them for the rest of their lives.
The week will close on Friday, May 15 with a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon for our staff. School will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. that day to give our team the afternoon to celebrate together.
Our teachers give so much to this community. This week is our chance to give a little back.
