A Yard Built for Busy Days

Children playing together on a colorful outdoor playground, climbing and sitting on a tire-based jeep structure at a preschool.

Step behind our building and you find a place made for busy children. It starts with a large sandbox, a swing set, and monkey bars. Our youngest pull themselves up, hang on, and learn what their arms and legs can do. A climbing structure with a slide gives them a summit to reach and a quick way down. The climbs build strength, and a little more nerve besides.

Close by sits a second sandbox and a turf area we recently added. That patch used to be only sand. Now children have a soft green space and a fresh set of toys to share. It makes more room for the side-by-side play where friendships form.

A paved path loops through the yard. This is where the bikes and buggy cars come out. Children pedal past three playhouses that they can run as their own little village. Then they ride over a small bridge that rises and dips beneath their wheels. Steering, pedaling, and taking turns all ask a child to plan ahead and watch out for a friend. That is real practice for a young body and a growing mind.

Our teachers carry the day's learning outside as well. Picnic tables in the yard become work stations for the day's hands-on activities. A lesson can move into the fresh air whenever the weather is kind. There is a basketball court too. Beside it, a painted mural opens like a path into a green, leafy world of grasses, trees, and butterflies.

We are proud that our yard gives children the room to run, build, pretend, and rest. If you would like to see it in person, we would love to show you around.
